To all WA members, if you did join the group please re-join as the system deleted the members, two of us have had to re-join.
Hey Drift. If there's any site issues, flick me a DM and I will try to assist.

Thank you, it seems to be ok now but I was dropped from the group and it seems others may have been.
As this is new to most of us we are trying to navigate the site and get familiar with it, I understand this is possibly the cause of a lot of our issues.
I did try to establish a build page, it wasn't working, but this is all good now.
Otherwise thank you for you work in the site, overall it is working well.
It would be helpful if we could establish the area of each builder and there stage of build.

Sorry to hear about the issues. I concede that there is a bit of a learning curve with the site software. The site is very similar to other forums / social media sites, but just different enough to be a little confusing at first. It is far from perfect, but overall a good fit. If I can add anything to the 'How to the use the site' article to help explain how to use the site a little better, let me know what you would like to see there, particularly if it can help avoid the issues that you have been experiencing. Would be good to retain visitors and not scare them away with issues such as this.

Thanks for the suggestions for builder area and build stage. I've changed the location / state to include more detail. If you edit your profile you will now be able to set country + state + city. I've hopefully migrated the data across that was already present in the previous 'state' field but users will need to add in the additional info for city. I'll make an announcement with some instructions on how people can do that.

I think that the 'build stage' should be possible. I can create a pre-canned list that you can select from. What suggestions do you have for it?

Here's an example...

  • Planning
  • Procurement
  • Chassis
  • Running Gear
  • Bodywork
  • Trim
  • Testing
  • Tuning
  • Cruising
  • Racing
  • Polishing

Yes that's a good start for the list.
My thoughts on the running gear, this should be split into, rear end, (engine mounting and drive axle) and front end, (steering).

I have found sourcing parts to get started the hardest part, so if there is any way we can help new builders through this part it would be helpful,
this would be a constant work in progress no doubt, as the materials and part suppliers come and go.
Many of the suppliers mentioned no longer supply.
So an "updatable list".

"The latest improved designs", for example I have re-drawn the standard chassis plan in metric, this would help builders.
The rear axle I have re-designed, still the standard size and 25mm axle but is a stronger design, you may see this on my build page.
I will make a video to show this.

I am not a social media or forum person so this is new to me but as I said before, thanks for the work you put in over all it is working well.

I added the additional selection for front / rear axles. Thanks for the suggestion.

The parts list is a hard thing to maintain as like you say, sources change frequently, especially when they are ebay or aliexpress. This is definitely something that needs to be improved. The current list is updatable, but only for those who have the necessary permissions. The closest thing to a list that anyone can update is something like a forum thread or Google spreadsheet. I'll have a bit of a ponder on how we might be able to achieve that. Ultimately it might be a goal to have parts sources listed within the Groups as that way they might be more relevant. Once of the best lists I've seen is the one that Steve Vinson has on Amazon Perhaps an approach like this would be better. The parts listed are not the cheapest, but appear to be always available. It then gives First timers a starting point from which they can then go and seek out cheaper alternatives if they so desire.

Other things to help first timers... I plan to add a bunch of additional technical articles to help first time builders. It would be good to get the resources section stacked with little articles on every aspect of the build, but that is an enormous endeavour and something that I would love some help with. If you are willing to share the metric versions of the plans I'd be happy to update the current article. As for other articles, I did stick up a post asking what people want to see but so far there's no response. Unfortunately the forums move a little slower now that Social Media has taken over.

Some additional help with the website and Facebook page would go a long way towards keeping things fresh and updated, both for things like the parts list but also other content too. At the moment there's only me and I'm juggling a bunch of similar web projects alongside my full time business whilst in the middle of a self build. Reality is that I'm spread far too thin. Just need a willing volunteer or two. There's no pay, but training can be provided
