Next pay... These sort out the one wheel drive I would imagine and veritable speed? Funny I presumed cyclekarts would be a direct 2wd, solid axle? No, they have to be one wheel drive. Also, you got a great deal on that motor Mick. Though do you think a Honda would be better for parts? Please no offence but if we can't kick ideas around we are going to get no where? There's a bit of variation but the way that the guys do it in the states is to have one wheel keyed on the axle and the other is allowed to free rotate, it just spins on the shaft usually directly with some grease to aid the process. This setup overcomes the need for a differential and also inhibits performance a little (which is intentional)
There's some guys who run a fixed axle, which is probably fine for dirt but would not be too good for tarmac or hard courses.
There's also a few guys building real high-tech setups with differentials and fully independent suspension, which is also cool but not necessary.

RE the motor, I'm on a bit of a budget so I'm trying to hit rock bottom prices on all of the parts that I have to buy, otherwise it'll take me a lot longer to save up the necessary $$$'s (and it's taking long enough as it is ).
I think that the clone engine will be fine, I have some similar units on portable generators / lawnmower etc and they just run on and on. Service parts are generally interchangeable with the Honda units, but then for the cost of a new engine, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one should it fail. In fact I could buy 10 clone units for the cost of a single Honda unit. (I'm pretty sure that a Honda unit would not last 10x as long )
Of course it's all down to personal preference, some just don't like the non-branded stuff or Chinese manufactured stuff, to each their own I guess.

Thanks for the great reply Mick. Yes I'm just starting out on cyclekarts. I am surrounded by many wonderful dry bed pans. Lake Perkolilli is Australia's oldest race track dates before Brookland. Inspires me to this form of affordable Art. A bit like Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams I share a dream...
However there are no Cyclekarts in my area (Kalgoorlie WA) so I must build a Kart in the hope "that others will follow". Please search Lake Perkolilli... as pics are to hard to download. It's a wonderful historic story. Enjoy.

I looked at this link, but Ebay says there is no such page anymore.
I've heard of the Red Dust revival before. I'm a bit of a land speed racing fan and follow the Aussie events when I can. I've raced at Lake Gairdner here in SA and one day would love to attend the revival, although that's a long road trip.
It's really cool that there is a revival in historic events, otherwise these events and the cars would just fade into obscurity.
When I was a young fella I used to lust after the classic sports cars and ignore the slow boring vintage stuff, but as I've grown older I've developed an appreciation for those early machines. After all they paved the way for everything that came after.
Not sure what's up with that link. Maybe the vendor pulled it?

Indeed, the old early cars are interesting. But nowadays such cars can be found only in collections. Well, I don't see such cars on the roads. I see sporty ones, but I don't see vintage ones
