This is the basic design that started it all and is the best place to start with your own Cyclekart design.
The Stevensons formula consists of a basic chassis and a plywood body that mounts between the chassis rails. It is the simplest form of construction and a good starting point for the novice Cyclekart constructor.
Overlay a silhouette of your chosen tribute car over the top of the above image to give you an idea of the scale and dimensions of your car.
The following drawings taken from cyclekarts.com also relate to this same design although dimensions may differ from the image above.
A note on the 'Stevenson formula'.
The original Stevensons design was created back in the early 1990's and is essentially a Cyclekart in its simplest and purest form. This simplicity makes it easy to construct, especially for the novice. However Cyclekarting has evolved over the intermediate 20+ years or so, and more elaborate construction methods are now more commonplace. It should be noted that whilst newer designs may be technically more advanced, they do not make the Stevenson formula redundant, as the basic dimensions, leaf spring front suspension and the use of the GX200 engine remains unchanged. These requirements are also great levellers of performance. In this manner the Stevensons original design lives on in all 'modern' Cyclekarts.
