Wheels
This will be one of your bigger outlays. The rule book currently states that you must use 17" spoked wheels You have 2 main choices wheels from a motorbike or aftermarket "pit bike" wheels.
- Wheels from a motorbike (such as a Honda "postie") are the gold class choice because of their strength. But, they are hard to find and quite pricey.
- Aftermarket wheels are much more available but are apparently not as strong. Commonly they come with "knobby" tyres.
I chose aftermarket wheels. I chose ones that had road style tyres. What I didn't do was pay attention to the axle size that went through it. Mine were 12mm. The other sizes appear to be 15mm and some have 17mm. The bigger the axle the better as there is anecdotal evidence of bent and broken front axles that are on the smaller side (ie 12mm). I will cover in a later post about what I did to overcome this.
