This is the mandrel bender I used to bend the front beam. It's great on thick wall tubing, but not 100% on thin wall tubing like this as it does deform the tube a little.

This is the basic beam, bent to shape on my el-cheapo mandrel bender. The thin tube has deformed on one side at the location of the holes that hold the mandrels in place (the first bend), I fixed this on the second bend.

These are (approximately) the same dimensions as the Stevenson cyclekart plans. There is an 8 1/2" rise from the bottom of the beam to the top of the vertical link. In the plans a 3" tall kingpin is called for, however with the tube / bend combination I used, when I cut the beam I found I need a 4" tall king pin. Not a drama as I will be making these items as well. The beam is 30" from face to face.

I cut the cross beams so that the chassis tapers in towards the front. This is the standard Stevenson design and provides clearancefort the front axle / wheels.

The project is made from a combination of new and recycled parts. This SHS started off life as a bed frame.

I tacked two lengths together to match the height of the main chassis rails

I tacked the chassis up, which was pretty hard to do on my cramped welding bench. It's ended up square but has a little twist from front to back. Nothing that cannot easily be straightened.
