If you are reading this, then you are now looking at our new website.
The new site has actually been written from scratch, which was a necessary requirement as the software that the old site worked on was unfortunately no longer supported. We have migrated the old data across, so you should be able to access all of your old forum posts, images and build pages.
We also took the opportunity to simplify things a little and remove the chaff to leave us with the best bits.
Passwords
To be able to log in initially you will need to request a password reset. You need to do this using the email that you registered with. This is required as the passwords are encrypted and the new system uses a different encryption to the old. Once you have reset your password you can continue to log in using the email and password.
Whats new...
Forums
So we still have a user forum. It's a little different from the old one, but like most forums it's pretty easy to figure out. The new forum does have a pretty nifty feature for formatting your posts and adding media.
When creating a post you will note that at the bottom of the editor it has a 'tip' that tells you to use '/' to insert images and format text. There's also a promote to 'type "/" for commands.
Typing the forward-slash '/' opens a menu that allows you to upload images and format the post. Just like this...

Build Pages
The build pages are still present. They work a little differently from the old 'activity stream' style layout. Each entry is more like a Blog post and includes a banner image and description. This allows you to showcase each step of your build a little better.
Similar to the forums you can use the forward-slash command to format the post and add media.
Photo Galleries
The photo galleries also remain. All of your existing images have been migrated and can be accessed via the 'Photos' link on the 'club' page
Your images will also be accessible via the forward-slash media browser when creating a new build-page entry. So now it is even easier to upload a bunch of images to your photo gallery, and then create a build page post where you can pull those images in, and discuss them in more detail. We think that this is much better than the old image comments.
Videos
The video section is pretty much the same and supports youtube and vimeo formats.
Groups
We decided to remove the old groups section. Whilst these made sense with the website in its old format prior to the club, as a way to connect people, they were little used and had a tendency to segregate people into smaller groups, which just meant that there was less activity. This was the opposite to what was intended.
So we are now just going to use the forums and Facebook pages, as this seems to work pretty well. Additionally, now that we are filling the roles for club representatives from each state / area, they will help to manage and organise club related events and content.
Activity Streams
We still aggregate content on the activity streams. The main activity stream on the '/club' page shows content from ALL users. The Activity stream on a usrs profile page only shows content related to the user.
Profile Pages
Profile pages have also been retained. The photo, video and build page links on the profile page will show you content related to the user, making it easier to view user related content.
Shop
We now have a new web-store. Here you can purchase club merchandise along with membership subscriptions and when available club sourced cyclekart parts. All proceeds from web-store sales go right back into the club and is one of the primary revenue raising mechanisms for the club.
We accept payment via PayPal or direct deposit
Wiki
We've moved the old resources section into a 'Wiki' style format to make things a little easier to find. The old website format limited the way that we could present information, hopefully the new layout is a bit more user friendly.
We will be updating and adding to the existing articles as time permits
Safety
You may have noticed the 'Safety 1st' link in the footer and members section of the website. The safety section is a collection of documents and procedures that help us to run events in a safe manner, that satisfies the requirements of both our insurer and third parties such as councils and venue owners.
For the most part the only aspect of this that members will see are the build guidelines and event documentation that they will need to complete to participate in events. So please don't feel overwhelmed by the information there, or feel that it is part of some 'nanny-state' controls. We are just trying to be transparent with everything that we do.
Other changes
There' a bunch of other changes to the site, too numerous to list here, bu needles to say, it's been a massive amount of work to get to this stage. But hopefully now it is up and running, we should only need to do some minor tweaks and bug fixes as they arise.
Bugs / Issues
Of course, if you've found an issue, please let us know by responding below and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can.
