The Cyclekart Club of Australia celebrates the spirit of vintage racing on a smaller, more accessible scale.

Our members design and build cyclekarts,  half-scale machines inspired by pre-war race cars and cyclecars, combining creativity, craftsmanship, and the thrill of classic motoring.

Affordable, fun, and community-driven, the club brings together enthusiasts to share builds, take part in events, and keep the golden age of motorsport alive.

Key Growth

What started back in 2018 as an online community to help connect people inspired by the Cyclekart scene in the USA, has today grown into a national registered body that helps to promote Cyclekarting Australia-wide.

Formally incorporated in 2024. Financial memberships were opened December 2025 to support the clubs insurance scheme, which has supported events across three states.

CCA Core Values

The clubs core values are to promote the sport of CycleKarting throughout the general community

To encourage and assist members in designing, building, and driving CycleKarts, and to provide a source of information on all aspects of CycleKarting

CCA Community

The club was formally established to undertake the responsibilities of organising and managing dynamic events under an approved insurance scheme.

The club helps to unite the community in these endeavours, achieving what would essentially be almost impossible for individuals or small groups to do on their own

Community connection and facilitation allows the club to engage with small member groups across the country and help them to navigate safety and insurance requirements to organise local events with the support of the club.

Frequently asked questions

Some common questions about Cyclekarts

Cyclekarts are inspired by pre-war racing cars. Builders can model their kart on a specific vintage vehicle, or simply capture the spirit and style of the era.

They are small, lightweight machines with: - A wheel track of no more than 1000mm - A wheelbase typically around 1675mm (and under 1800mm) - An approx weight of 100–125kg (without driver)

Cyclekarts use a nominated engine of restricted power. This ensures that they are safe to use. If you are familiar with child's gokart's, it's pretty much the same, just with fancier looking bodywork. Essentially a grown up version of a child's gokart.

Standard: 6.5hp Honda GX200 engine (or clone)
Electric option: 72V, nominal 5kW, 7.5kW peak

17” wire-spoke wheels are the standard (commonly from postie bikes or pit bikes)

Rear brakes only (no front brakes permitted) Suspension should follow pre-war designs, usually beam axles with leaf springs

Transmission: CVT, centrifugal clutch, or belt drive

There’s no strict limit, but cyclekarting is about creativity and thrift. Builders are encouraged to reuse parts, keep costs down, and do at least 50% of the work themselves. This keeps the spirit of the hobby alive and makes it accessible to everyone.

Smiles per mile

Cyclekarting has just the right amount of everything to be lots of fun. The recipe is just right.
