A few years back I looked into the possibility of holding an event on the Victoria Park racetrack. This is the last remaining section of the old F1 track and was also host to the Clipsal Supercars.

The area is hired out by the council for public events and so it is possible to hire it and hold your own event. The area is often hired out for events like the solar challenge and pedal-prix.

Unfortunately at present the area has been commandeered by the Covid testing facility and so is currently unavailable. But with the borders recently opening up and Covid restrictions due to be phased out, it could once again be available to hire in the not too distant future.

My ultimate goal is hold a Grand Prix style event there. Open to everyone with a cyclecar, local and interstate.

I suspect that such an event will be a few years away at the soonest, not just due to the Covid issue but we also need enough participants to warrant putting it on.

So whilst this is just a pipe dream at the moment. It is a definite goal to aim for as an Adelaide event.

I figure that we'd need to hold some smaller community events before progressing to the Victoria Park track. A more achievable goal is possibly to look at holding a smaller event at the Road Safety Centre adjacent to Bonython Park. This mock roadway is run by SAPOL. It has the added benefit that the area is enclosed.



There'a also other similar mock roadways elsewhere too...



Of course there's also ample opportunity to hold private events anywhere that someone has a bit of land and doesn't mind cyclekarts hurtling about. I've already got a shortlist of places. Essentially anyone is able host an event. it just needs participants.
