I came across this home made bender online. Which just goes to show that you can get pretty good results from DIY made JIGs and machines, if you just have a little savvy and a lot of patience.

This is an old-timer method, which is to pack the tube with sand before bending, which prevents the tube from deforming.

Modern mandrel benders support the tube walls to prevent the pipe shape from collapsing when you bend it. But filling with sand is a tried and trusted method.

If you've been struggling with trying to figure out how to bend your front axle, this could be just the project for you…
