So with my recent score of a second set of wheels I decided I might as well create another page and document the (very) slow progress of Cyclekart build No. 2. At this stage it will be little more than a parts sourcing exercise but hopefully will eventuate into a finished Cyclekart.

I've always loved the Brooklands era cars, so it seemed fitting to choose another Brooklands special for build number 2, a Riley 9 Brooklands.
As well as finding a set of wheels, I will confess that I also pulled the trigger on a XG200 motor with electric start from eBay for a mere $240 with my eBay Plus discount. Thanks to Hugh for sharing the link on the FB page.

Along with the steel I have left over from the chassis of car No. 1 I also have some new tyres. So well on my way with the major components.
All I need now is some time.

Thanks for the replies. All good info, although actually I was referring to the king pins or swivels for the stub axle but couldn't think of the right words :-) Any info there would be appreciated also.Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. I've got the front suspension half done now. Here are some pics of the rear spring eyes and hangers. I had a lot of trouble getting enough heat into them to forging them properly but I think they will work ok.Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Sort of. I bought a large propane gas torch and managed to get enough heat into the end of the springs to bend an eye into them. The eyes aren't perfect by any means but they work. We are away at present but I'll post a pic when we get back.Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Item will now be visible on your stream.

Thanks Mick. I think that's what I'll do. I just made up a jig out of a couple of pieces of 7/8" bar to bend the slipper end of the spring, just need to see if I can get a propane torch big enough to get enough heat into it.
Cheers

One of many questions no doubt, I have got to the front suspension stage and now looking around for springs. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of light duty eye to eye springs, but I have got hold of a set of light slipper springs.

I was wondering if anyone has tried swaging an eye into a slipper spring and re-tempering? The spring is about the right size and just one leaf would do.
Thanks for any info.

Hi Mick, thanks for your reply. Yes good point. Perhaps I'll continue and work out the axle position later.

I have just started on a project and have started on the chassis rails. I have got them cut to length and the taper at the front done, and next I want to drill the holes for the axles before welding the cross members in. I was wondering how far from the rear should the axle hole center point be? From looking at plans on this site I would guess about 175mm or thereabouts. Would that be ok?More
