Yeah the bonnet straps are belts i got in a 50% off sale online. They are genuine leather and were about $10ea. I was going to buy the leather and buckles and make my own, but it was significantly cheaper (like a quarter of the price) to use off the shelf belts and just cut them up.

I'm not familiar with the term knock offs, you might have to educate me!

Work, Life and organising events really slowed down the progress on my build. Whilst not being ruinning by the NSW BBQ Event, I got enough done to be able to showcase what I have been up to and to give people an idea on the build process of a cyclekart.

Since the last update, I have completely skinned the front 2/3s of the kart in 0.5mm aluminium and punched about 3/4 of the louvre vents. I made an assortment of punches out of scrap plywood and old merbau timber decking. I used the merbau to make punches and then made dies out of 12mm plywood. It works well enough on the thin aluminium - the dies are stronger than the sheet itself and will split it if you aren't careful.

Ive made a lot of progress on the fibreglass nosecone. I've smoothed it out, put the front cutouts in, painted it and started making a grille. Though not quite finished as a I would like, I have made big progress.

I have made a dashboard from 12mm ply which i have skinned with aluminium and dressed with brass. It contains my keyed electric start ignition and an 85mm GPS speedometer. For 12v power, I got a Milwaukee M12 battery adapter that tucks up behind the dash out of sight to power the 12v accessories.

Steering wheel is about half way done and roughed in to shape. It is made from lasercut 3mm steel and clad in 12mm Plywood with Red 1mm G10 liners between the wood and steel which I had left over from my bladesmithing escapades

Ive also started on the windscreen and side view mirrors which are a work in progress.

Whilst Im a long way off completion, I am hoping to get a lot more done before the Goulburn Car show in November

Cyclekart Club of Australia – Camden BBQ & Drive Day

I've been contemplating for 24 hours on what to write as an event recap. I still can't put it into words. I'm blown away by the reception to this event and all the positives to come out of it. Couple that with the events in SA and the cyclekart buzz happening now in Queensland, its looking like it's going to be an awesome 6 months ahead.

What a day! Our first ever Cyclekart Club of Australia event in New South Wales — and the biggest gathering of cyclekarts in the country so far.
We had six cyclekarts on site, plus a beautifully preserved 1925 Singer Ten cyclecar that really stole the show. Four of the cyclekarts were complete and running, while two more were in the build stage, giving everyone a great look at different stages of the process.

Around 35 people came and went throughout the day — regular members, new builders, and plenty of curious locals who wandered in off the street to see what it was all about. It was fantastic to see so many people chatting, sharing ideas, and getting inspired to start their own builds.
The test and tune sessions under the Farm View Pavilion were a real highlight. Ian Paul, Rick Jones, Donald Swanson, and David Grevengoed all took part in some exhibition laps, giving everyone a taste of what these little machines can do. Rick Jones went above and beyond, generously letting others take the wheel of his kart for a few runs — a true show of the Cyclekart spirit.

Paul’s kart had a few teething issues early on, but with everyone pitching in tools, parts, and know-how, he was soon back up and running for the rest of the day. It really showed the collaborative side of this hobby — everyone helping each other out and learning along the way.
After a few hours of running and tinkering, everyone gathered for a relaxed barbecue lunch. I organised the food and put together a couple of salads, while Anthony took charge of the grill as our chef for the day. He did a fantastic job — the barbecue was spot on and enjoyed by all. It was a great chance to sit down, share stories, swap build ideas, and just enjoy some good company.

We had people come from all areas — Goulburn, Springwood, Wedderburn, Camden, Hunters Hill, and the Central Coast plus all the locals. I’d like to thank everyone who attended, whether you drove two minutes or two hours. To friends old and new — thank you for being part of creating a community.
A special thank you to Josh Woods and Ben Woods for bringing down the beautiful 1925 Singer Ten, to Nathan Roche and Camden Council for their support and for providing such a stunning venue, To Donald Swanson and Ian Paul - the original trailblazers in NSW cyclekarts for their support, and most of all a big thanks to Anthony Martinovski who was my right hand and a key part of making the day happen. Finally, to Mick Percy for backing me from day one, for his encouragement and friendly ear — even from 1300 km away.

What an incredible start for cyclekarting in NSW. Here’s to many more!

Also made a foam buck for a nosecone. Got it into shape over the weekend and laid down my first layers of glass and resin. By far the messiest thing I have ever done. I just used chopped mat for the fibreglass, but in hindsight i would use woven cloth for straight lines and simple curves whilst saving the chopped mat for the more intricate compound curves. Now time to sand, cut and recoat where necessary
